Change of Name, Tariff, or Load
Already have a connection but need to change the registered name, the tariff category, or the sanctioned load? That is a change application, separate from a new connection.

What This Is
A change application updates an existing connection rather than creating a new one. The common reasons are a change of name after buying or inheriting a property, a change of tariff (for example domestic to commercial, or the reverse), and an increase or decrease in the sanctioned load.
Like a new connection, a change can need a survey and a Demand Notice, and a name change needs proof that the property is now yours. Under NEPRA's rules a change of name after a purchase follows much the same process as a new connection application.
What You Need
- Your existing reference number or consumer ID,
- the latest paid bill with no pending arrears, deferred amount, or instalments,
- an attested copy of your CNIC,
- the documents for the type of change listed below.
Documents for Each Change
The following lists come from Chapter 2 of NEPRA's consumer service rules. The company may ask to see original or attested documents for verification.
- Change of name
- Ownership proof or sale deed, the last paid bill with no pending arrears or instalments, an attested CNIC copy, and the Power Supply Contract. A legal heir also needs the succession document.
- Company ownership change
- The company documents include the incorporation certificate, a board resolution authorizing the signatory, the directors' details and CNIC copies, and a court order where a merger was approved by a court.
- Increase or reduce load
- A test report from the Electric Inspector or an authorized wiring contractor, the last paid bill with no pending arrears or instalments, an attested CNIC copy, and the Power Supply Contract.
- Change of tariff
- A test report from the Electric Inspector or an authorized wiring contractor, the last paid bill with no pending arrears or instalments, an attested CNIC copy, and the Power Supply Contract.
Important NEPRA Rules
- New property owner
- When a property with an electricity connection is sold, the new owner must apply for a change of name. The security deposit is updated at the current rate after adjusting the amount already paid.
- Change of name timing
- After the applicant completes all requirements, the change of name must be completed within 10 days under NEPRA's consumer service rules.
- Change of tariff timing
- Apply at least 30 days before the tariff change is needed. Once all requirements are complete, the change must be processed within 10 days, with billing adjusted on a proportionate basis after that point.
- Possible charges
- A load or tariff change can require capital cost and an updated security deposit. The company issues a Demand Notice when payment is required.
